I arrived at Walmart yesterday only a few minutes before the building was evacuated at 1:50 pm for what is now being called a “bomb threat”. Funny when it happened that no one really knew what was going on. I heard the announcement clearly and was not happy since I had just arrived there, but it went something along the lines of “We’re sorry for this inconvenience, but we need to ask everyone to evacuate the store immediately due to TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. There is no need to panic, please leave your carts where they are and exit at the front of the building.”
Technical difficulty? No, it was a bomb scare! But they certainly didn’t let anyone know that at the time. All the customers (and employees) just mingled outside the front doors, waiting to get back in to their carts in the store. It might have been nice, at least after everyone was out of the building, to let us know there actually was a threat of danger and not to hang around. I only stayed a few more minutes thankfully, and I’m glad I had the foresight to get out of there. I have no idea how long others waited around, but I do know the store was still closed off with police blocking the entrances after 4 pm. There were no police cars, no fire trucks, and no information at all when I left right after it happened around 2 pm though.
I’m left wondering what if I had been blown up at Walmart yesterday? Geez, what a terrible way to go! If I’m ever blown up, I sure hope they can say at my funeral that I was blown up someplace respectable like Talbots or cool like Best Buy, but not Walmart! I’m really glad I survived the whole thing.
I guess they’ll probably be more news tomorrow on the Walmart bomb threat, but for now the State Journal Register has only a small bit of information on what happened there, guess they’re a little busy dealing with the news of our Governor right now:
