Well, my image doesn’t seem to be working, but maybe this link will work if you’d like to read the letters to the editors:

  2. I’m cautiously optimistic that the Dana-Thomas House will not be forced to close and will instead stay open after Tuesday’s news that the Senate voted to restore the funds for the state of Illinois historic sites and parks. It’s been three days though, and there is no further news on what the governor will do, so I’m waiting and nervous. But hopefully the Dana-Thomas House will be saved from closure. My fingers are crossed!

Here is the article from the 9/23/08 State Journal Register:

Faced with potential voter backlash in November, Illinois senators Tuesday approved bills to reverse budget cuts that threatened to close state parks and historic sites and cause hundreds of state workers to be laid off.

The legislation was approved by the House two weeks ago, so it now goes to Gov. Rod Blagojevich for his approval.

Almost immediately, though, the governor’s office signaled that the Senate action may not save all of the parks, sites and jobs. Blagojevich must act on the budget restorations for them to take effect.
“We still have to look at particulars of the bill and the language before deciding what to do,” said Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero in an e-mailed statement. “We will spend what we can afford to spend in the areas of the greatest need.”
