The Police, a band that broke up in 1984 and reunited in 2007 for a reunion tour, has been ranked #8 on Forbes’ power list “The Celebrity 100” for 2008. How cool is that? Congratulations to Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers of The Police for this well-deserved honor and for working so hard this last year performing together again on tour for all of your adoring fans, including me.
The Celebrity 100 is Forbes’ list of the world’s most powerful–and best-paid–celebrities. To generate the list, Forbes estimates celebrity earnings, from June 2007 – June 2008, then factors in media metrics like Google hits, press mentions as compiled by Factiva, TV/radio mentions from Lexis/Nexis and the number of times an A-lister appears on the cover of more than 50 consumer magazines.
If you check out the rankings, The Police ranking at #8 comes primarily from the money they have made on their reunion tour, as their web, press and TV rankings aren’t nearly as spectacular as the pay they have raked in over the last year.
