American Idol 7 Neil Diamond Song Predictions

Neil Diamond Week American IdolTonight is Neil Diamond week on American Idol, and I’m going to try to predict a few of the songs that might be sung. But first I must admit that I am a Neil Diamond fan, and I’m excited about the show tonight. I know all of Neil Diamond’s songs because my mother was a HUGE fan. She played his records all the time in our home while I was growing up. I went to see The Jazz Singer at the movie theater with my Mom, she was so excited when that movie came out! I admit it, I like Neil Diamond! It reminds me of my mother and how happy she was listening to his music. Now, on with my predictions of songs that might be covered by American Idol contestants tonight:

Sweet Caroline – the mother of all Neil Diamond songs. I’m wondering if anyone is brave enough to attempt this? It’s risky unless it’s done extremely well. Can Little David come through with this one?

America – This song from the movie “The Jazz Singer” just begs to be sung on American Idol, doesn’t it? Could David Cook pull off an edgier/harder rock version of this song? Yeah, I think he could.

I’m A Believer – Someone should do this one because it has been remade recently for Shrek and is in the public consciousness already. This one seems fairly easy and light, I’m thinking Brooke or Jason could probably handle this one.

Play Me – “You are the sun, I am the moon, you are the words, I am the tune, play me”. Come on, perfect for American Idol!

“Love On The Rocks” and “Hello Again”, also from the movie “The Jazz Singer”, were pretty big hits and well known songs, maybe someone will tackle on of these?

Well, I got four out of six right, not too bad. I must say I wasn’t really thrilled with the show tonight. Although David Archuleta sang well, I just didn’t like his versions of Sweet Caroline or America very well. I liked David Cook best tonight overall. And I thought Syesha was better than Brooke or Jason, I don’t know why Simon has to give her negative comments. That wasn’t called for or necessary.
